Shopping in Albania

For tourists, Albania offers a number of interesting souvenirs. Carpets, filigree, copper tea sets, wood carvings, glassware and other local handicrafts are generally good bargains.

In Tirana, you'll also find good quality, Italian-made shoes available at inexpensive prices. There are also some larger shopping centres in Tirana. If you crave a mall experience while there, head to the Galeria mall, located inside the European Trade Centre. The mall has about 70 shops and cafes as well as a supermarket.

The city centre is small and you can easily walk everywhere, and without exception the staff is friendly and reasonably competent. Shopping is still best in the established areas such as in the bllok district and along Rruga Myslym Shyri where you'll find many boutiques; you're more likely to find bargains and groovy stuff there than in the malls.

In Tirana, there is a group of souvenir shops on Barricadave and Luigj Gorakuqi streets. Some of the big tourist hotels also have their own shops. You can buy carpets, figurines, silver and copper articles, woodcarvings, ceramics and an assortment of needlework.

Outside of Tirana, go to the local bazaars and markets to purchase both necessities and souvenirs.

In general, shopping hours are: Monday-Saturday, 7 am-noon and 3-7 pm. Some shops are also open on Sunday.
